Hi there 'DaveS' you're probably right, added to which the mix of COM and dotNET is not a particularely happy one, bridging via PIA is fraught with perils. I am also not sure that a purely 'Excel' forum will have an answer to this, since my original useage of the command in question works on one 'flavour' of Office and not on the other, and the problem only seems to appear when using Excel COM object with dotNET, and not 'native' in excel VBA. I too, have not done anything with excel for years, and certainly not in this depth, I am/was a procedural programmer of the 'old' school ('C', Compiler IBM Basic + BTrieve/ISAM, assembler and COBOL to name but a few!) and was content to look down upon VBA & OOP proggies - that certainly taught me a lesson, all that old stuff is gone with the dinosaurs and me almost with it! I thank you for your interest and pointers, which did show me that I had made some mistakes. I shall persevere - I shall indeed have to, the company I work for absolutely adores Excel and (mis)use it for almost everything imaginable and otherwise.
